Luna Llena Hotel – A Montezuma History
My Name is Milly, I was born in Germany, Wolfsburg in 1962. My Father was from Argentina, and since I was little, I dreamed about living somewhere in the tropics. My ex-husband, our older son Benjamin Silvestre and I came to Costa Rica for the first time in 1992 and immediately fell in love with this country, the nature and the people.
In 1995 our second son Luciano was born. We lived in Playa Manzanillo for the first 4 years, and after we got divorced, my sons and I came to Montezuma. For the next 5 years I opened and ran a kindergarten here in this location. Then I had the chance to buy the house and the property. The main house was only 3 bedrooms, open kitchen and outdoor shower.
Over the last 16 years we built the decks, a new part of the house and the little cabinas on the property. We used to live in the upper part of the main house; Room 9 was my bedroom for 10 years. Then about 8 years ago we moved to Cabuya.
Benjamin and Luciano grew up in the community of Montezuma, barefoot, surfing, jumping the waterfall, playing soccer, eating rice and beans, and harvesting mangos, jocotes and wild almonds at the beach. Their friend’s families became also our family. In all these years I have learned to love this town from my heart. It is not all paradise, but it is a community where friendship and respect is a big part of the lifestyle. We are all races, all colors, all nationalities, religions, poor or rich, it doesn’t matter, we all meet at the same beaches, parties and events.
Our staff has been working together for many years and I am grateful for the help of my dear, hard working friends who form part of our team:
Jerson, the night guard and his cute family live in Montezuma. He takes care of everything and everyone through the night, and Luna Llena would not be the same without him. Lisbeth, the younger cleaning lady, came when she was only 17 years old. Besides working in our hotel she takes classes at the University on her weekends. And we have Yamileth, who always shows a happy face. She loves Salsa and Merenge and can dance all night. Luis from Nicaragua keeps our gardens looking great and is also our replacement night guard.
On the permanent reception team we have Leah from Toronto with her most beautiful daughter Kalani. Her Costa Rican husband runs the Surf School, Young Vision. Then there is Luciano, my younger son, who also studies at the University on the weekends and surfs every free moment. And Naleska, a lovely Montezuma local who studies at the University in San Jose and is a talented photographer.
Shanti is our sweet white cat who spends his days lazing about in the sun and takes off at night to hunt in the jungle.
We all together wish you a blessed wonderful vacation time in our town and our Hotel!
