How to get to Montezuma, Costa Rica
It is easy to get to Montezuma by public transportation. From San Jose a direct bus brings you to Montezuma twice a day. Departure from the Nueva Megaterminal is at 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. The bus ticket costs $15.50 and travel time is 5.5 hours. Included in the ticket is the ferry from Puntarenas across the Gulf of Nicoya to Paquera.
If you want to jump on the bus right after arriving at the airport you take a 5-min cab ride to the bridge of Villa Bonita in Alajuela. Here the direct bus passes at around 6:20 am and 2:20 pm.
Once you have arrived at the bus station in Montezuma you walk 150 m uphill and you see the Luna Llena hotel to your left.
From other destinations in Costa Rica you might take other buses to get to Montezuma. Common for all travel routes with public transportations is that you have to pass through the port town of Puntarenas where you take the ferry to Paquera, and from there the local bus to Montezuma.
A scenic and adventurous way to arrive in Montezuma is by boat from Jaco, on the Costa Rican main land. During the 1-hour trip you sometimes see dolphins or manta rays. From Jaco the ticket costs $50. You can also book a combination of minibus and boat ride from San Jose for a total of $85.
In Costa Rica two national carriers, Sansa and Nature Air, serve flights to Tambor. The trip takes only 45 min but as they fly with small aircrafts you should observe their weight limitations. From Tambor it’s a 30-min cab ride to Montezuma
